A couple of weeks ago I was told by my doctor and optician to not wear any eye make up or contact lenses for a week. For someone who’s whole make up look is based on my eyes; it was a little bit heartbreaking. Not to mention wearing my glasses for 2 weeks straight. I know glasses are all in at the mo but for me, I’ll always associate them with being poorly, hungover and at times where I feel pants about myself. And not wearing any eye make up on top of that, well, it’s easy to say it was a crappy 2 weeks.
It is, of course, all psychological. I’ve received a lot of compliments on wearing my specs and I know I don’t look too bad not wearing make up. My skin is clear on most days but my eyes can have horrible bags and I love experimenting with eyeshadow. I feel that doing my eyes up I feel a lot more put together and ready. I had a real loss of confidence for the first few days. It took me a few days to re-evaluate and think that there are other ways where I can feel more put together without focusing on my eyes and bringing the attention away from them. So, here’s what I focused on instead:
Concentrating on my skin
I feel a bit half done if I wear foundation and no eye make up. I just feel, half finished? I don’t wear any face products on work days but I found my face looks a bit dull with the lack of mascara and eyeliner. I decided to up my skincare routine and focus on making it look natural, fresh but also well polished. I use my favourite Skin Sincere Face Scrub to exfoliate my face. I cleansed with Clinque and used my Simple Toner to brighten up my face and get the blood flowing. It bought a more natural glow to my skin. I then moisturise with either my trusty Astral or on really bad dry skin days, caused by stress of me being emotional, I opt for Pure Potions Skin Salvation* Both my moisturisers gave my skin a much more natural shine and a natural glow.
Painting my nails
It sound ridiculous how something as simple as painting your nails and making them look nice and make you feel a million times better. I’m definetely more of a dark coloured nail girl which is really suiting the more winter weather at the moment. I’m making sure when it chips that I’m painting over it straight away. It’s amazing how a little bit more together I feel. At the moment, I’m wearing Fearne Cotton’s Red Lady. My mum got them me for Christmas and they are just lovely to apply. They are thick but apply nicely and don’t require a second coat.
Lipstick always completes a look and I usually love a bold eye and a bold lip. Not being able to have one, I’ve started looking at more nude and every day tones which will complement my natural skin. With me working more on my skin in the morning, the blood is flowing more and seeming to make me look a bit more alive where I’d usually use highlighter and a powder and it doesn’t make my lip colour look out of place. At the moment, I’m really loving MAC Pink Plaid which permanent home is now in my handbag!
Let me know other ways you guys feel good without wearing any eye make up!
