I thought it was about time I stop getting deep and meaningful with you guys and start filling my blog back up with wonderful food again.
The Geek & I were invited to try out The Beefeater in Longbridge, Birmingham a few weeks ago. It was that glorious hot week that we had in May which was the perfect date night weather and seemed the best opportunity to eat all of the food. The Beefeater in Longbridge has recently been refurbished.
When I usually think of Beefeaters, it takes me back to the one near my Gran’s house and for some reason, she used to avoid it by the plague. My Gran was also the same lady who when she dropped food on the floor, used to wash it and serve it up. Though a truly remarkable woman, she was also pretty bonkers so I’m not sure why I also never went to Beefeaters, like her. Because, it really was a good meal for a cheeky mid week date night.
I wanted to opt for a healthy 3 course meal but right now, I have the self control level as my dog, so I did kinda go all out. (not sorry!) Some days, a girl has just gotta eat her feelings but I do keep needing to remind myself that girl, you’ve got a wedding dress to get into.
Located about a 10 minute walks from Longbridge station, The Beefeater South had a great vibe; it was relaxed, clean and had a great beer garden area looking out onto Bournville College. It had that glorious summer vibe where you just wanna drink cider, catch up with your mates and put the world to rights.
We opted to eat inside and go full the whole 3 course meal. I had the Loaded Potato Dippers topped with bacon and cheese served with a sour cream dip. It was lovely but I would probably have shared it rather than had a one portion to myself as it was carb central. They do a sharer portion of the Loaded Potato Dipper, which can be served as above or topped with cheese and spring onion. It would be the perfect sharer to eat with a bottle of vino on their terrace! The Geek went for the Arabiatta Meatballs, served with ciabatta. It was a different starter than what he’d usually go for but said it was flavoursome, the arabiatta sauce had a little kick to it and wasn’t too overfilling.
The mains we’re the best out of our experience. The Beefeater is a steakhouse so it seemed silly not to try one of their steaks. The Geek went for the 8oz fillet steak and he wasn’t disappointed. The steak was tender, melt in the mouth and perfectly cooked; exactly how you want to have a fillet steak. He had it without sauce but there’s a range of different sauces to spice up your steak!
I went for the Double Bacon & Cheese Steak Burger which hit the spot. The burger was thick, smothered in cheese and everything good in the world. Served with fries and coleslaw; for the price, it was a good burger. My only error is that I was full from the starter that I couldn’t finish it, considering it was my first restaurant burger in a while, it definitelymade me a little sad.
I’m one of those people who always tells people about the secret dessert stomach, so, it seemed right we finished off our date night with a cheeky sweet treat. I love Rocky Road so it made sense I went for the Rocky Road Ice Cream Sundae to compliment the gorgeous weather. The Geek went for the Salted Toffee Apple Crumble, he did say it was more crumble than apple filling but enjoyed it non the less.
For a mid week date night or a steak dinner and catch up with your friends, The Beefeater is the perfect venue. It’s laid back vibe and good food provides the relaxed backdrop to catch up on your day and chill out for the evening. The Beefeater has been put firmly back on my radar so I’ll be definitely going to my local one soon.
