Pieminister has been on my list of places to try out since my fiance tried out their Manchester branch. He described it as the best pie he’s ever had and kept searching for another branch whenever we visited a new city. I just met his assumptions with smiles because pie isn’t his usual go to; it’s mine. If anyone is the pie connoisseur in the relationship, it’s the girl who’s name actually is the food he’s banging on about.
We were met with the news that Pieminister were opening a Birmingham branch. His little face lit up and with that I was going to finally try out the best pie he’s ever had and could finally stop going on about it.
Pieminister have opened their Birmingham branch on Waterloo Street, just off Queen Victoria Square. It’s easy to find and is in the city centre. We decided to go on The Geek’s birthday and for a Thursday night, the restaurant was pretty busy (probably other people finding out about the world’s best pie!). Pieminister has beebn freshly decorated: exposed brick walls with lettering, huge windows to let in all the light. It’s pleasing to go into and so many pretty things to look at.
I opted to have the Moo & Blue Classic Pie which was a beef and stilton pie served with mash potato and gravy [basically the perfect part-time Northeners meal]. The pie was the perfect size and proportions. None of this all pastry and no filling. It was also more than a slice of pie as you can get in some restaurants. It was presented sat on a bed of fluffy mash and a side of gravy.
I’m very much a Pieminister convert now and have already been recommending it to my friends. It’s even beaten my favourite pie shop in Lincoln. Pieminister have a good selection of pies on the menu ranging from vegetarian options to gluten free. If you’re not a pie fan, they do a skillet option with a few of the same fillings. If you’re like me and absolutely love pie, they even do a weekend brunch option which I cannot wait to try out!
