If there is anything that helps my mental health and soul, it’s walking my dog surrounded by water.
I keep referring to this negative space I’ve been in recently, and I’m slowly coming out the other side. I’ve noticed I’m happiest when I’m out with Rufus and we’re somewhere different than our usual walking spots. There’s just something lovely seeing his nose twitch and getting all excited and sniffing all those new smells.
On a Sunday morning, I decided to head over to Priorslee Lakes with my camera and my hound. Priorslee is only a 20 minute drive away from my house and just on the outskirts of Telford in Shropshire. Just off Junction 4 on the M54, Priorslee has a huge lake and it’s the perfect dog walk and wildlife spot.
There’s always something about being surrounded by water that instantly makes me feel a lot calmer and allows me to clear my head. I’ve been having a pretty rough time at work and I have just had to take a step from everything that requires my brain power in all honestly. To keep myself sane and bring myself into a better state of mine, I’ve been trying to make more time at the weekends to go out and explore new places and enjoy going off the beaten track.
There will always be a sense of achievement of exploring new places and seeing Rufus filled with glee and watching him bound through the long grass. There was a lot of new ground the explore at Priorslee lake and a lot of water. Rufus loved getting his toes wet and having a splash in the water; he’s getting more and more confident in water and soon I think he’ll be diving in and swimming like a spaniel.
The best thing you can do is just go out and explore. Turn off your phone and give yourself some well deserved me time. It’s amazing what fresh air can do to refresh your mindset.
