One of the best times to book a winter break is after Christmas and before we all go back to work on the 3rd January. Why am I posting it now? Because it’s one of the best ideas I had in all of 2016.
I started 2016 by booking an overnight stay in Copenhagen as soon as we went back to work on January 4th. I vividly remember having back to work blues, feeling like I had no time for myself over the festive break and all in all, just a little overwhelmed with the meh feeling. I scoured Ryanair and came across flights for £13 to Copenhagen. We booked them, found a cheap hotel and had a date night in Denmark.
As soon as I booked it, I remember the whole feeling of relief lifting off me. it was refreshing having something to look forward to in January. Out of all the months in the world, I think January is one of the most miserable and bleugh months. Christmas is built up with festivities, fairy lights, magic and happiness and come January, it all drops off. it’s like we are all sat waiting for March to roll around so we can have some brighter days and happier times. But, why can’t we make the most out of January being a happy time?
To date, it’s one of my favourite adventures The Geek and I have ever been on. There was something wonderful about having a day off in January and roaming the streets of Copenhagen. Getting drunk on a school night, and really, having that holiday feeling in the middle of January. It makes the dark nights a little more bearable.
So if I recommend anything to you pals it’s to scour Skyscanner after your Christmas dinner and book a trip away. Snag a cheapo flight and just fight those Christmas blues. Even if it’s only a night away. People laughed when I said we were only going for a night but, why the heck not? The world is so accessible these days in a matter of hours you can be in another country. Sometimes, you gotta fight the system and just do it.
