You know you are the crazy dog lady when you’re trying to involve your dog at your wedding.
At every wedding venue we went to see we asked the same question: is it dog friendly? Rufus is such an important part of my life and really is part of our little family, that it seems wrong not to have him there. Ironically, we actually went with a venue that wasn’t dog friendly but allowed him to have a few photos with us outside on the day.
I’ve mentioned before how I want our wedding to reflect us. I’m 100% focusing on the vibe and feeling I want on the big day, and I want to be able to look around the venue and see that every decoration and choice showcases us as a couple. With all the geeky Harry Potter things and all the booze being involved, I want to have snippets of our life with Rufus.
I accept I cannot have him there on the day. Being honest and as I’ve got more and more into the wedding planning process, I have found it sort of a blessing because I won’t be worried about him and he’s not going to be getting up to mischief at the venue. But, I’ve been planning ways that I can involve him at the wedding and shows the crazy dog couple we really are.
- SAVE THE DATES
Once we decided on a date and venue, I knew Rufus wouldn’t be able to be completely involved in our wedding day. But, I was going to try my hardest to get him as involved as I possibly could. My first way; save the dates! I did a post about our budget Save the Date cards which included a blackboard and lots of photographs of my little dog. One of my favourite things about them is that at least people haven’t just got my fiance and I on their fridges; they’ve got a little bit of Rufus too!
- DOG TREATS
A lot of our guests are going to be dog lovers who would have had to leave their four legged pals at home. I’m planning on having a table full of little packs of dog treats for our guests to take away with them at the end of the night. It’s a great idea for a little favour and one that you know you will get eaten, and again showing your love for dogs.
- CHARITY FAVOURS
Wedding favours sit in a weird grey area for me, as honestly, I don’t know if they ever get used. If I’m going to purchase something for guests to stick in a drawer when they get home, I want to proceeds to go to charity. Lots of charities have an option to supply pins or cards stating that the happy couple have donated to a charity, which to me is a wonderful idea. One dog based charity that does pins and cards is The Dogs Trust. You could also pop signs around your venue stating which charity you’ve donated too if pins aren’t up your street!
- CUSTOM CAKE TOPPERS
A little subtle way to include your fluffy pal on your big day – the cake topper. Etsy is a wonderful place to commission to cake topper, and the silhouette designs are lovely. The cake is a great centre piece to show off your pooch and the cake gets a whole bit of the wedding dedicated to it The one I like the look of is this wooden silhouette one .
- WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHS
Your dog may not be allowed in the venue, but they could be allowed outside the venue. I’m planning to have Rufus attend after our ceremony for a few shots of the three of us for 15 minutes. Pictures are priceless when it comes to weddings so investing in this is something I really want to do. You can dress your dog to dress the part, with either a smart bowtie or bandana. There’s so many fab sellers online such as The January Rose, Chloe Suzanne Designs and Mabel & Mu that sell bow ties and bandanas. Rufus in the below photo is wearing his Higgins & Lyla leather collar* complete with sequins, glitter and a bow. Make sure you tell your photographer beforehand so they can pack a squeaky ball to get your pooches attention during the photos.
Pinterest has so many other ways to include your dog but these are a few that I’m currently thinking about! If you have anymore, let me know in the comments below.
