Hiya, I’m Becky and I’m incredibly late to the party.
At the end of June, The Geek, Rufus and I, along with 2 friends, headed down to DogFest South on the Sunday for a day of pooches, blogging and sunshine. Unfortunately, we missed DogFest last year so it was my definite dog related thing to do this year. So, on the Sunday we packed up Paulo the Polo and headed down the M1 for the day.
The best way to describe DogFest is Glastonbury for dogs and crazy dog people. I was quite literally in my happy place surrounded by dogs and sunshine. We started the day by watching some of the dog diving hosted by K9 Sports. Rufus didn’t have a go as he would have quite easily been terrified at the thought of jumping off something so high, but, it’s strangely captivating watching the dogs launch themselves off and have a swim!
Originally, we had planned to go to DogFest North the weekend before, but we swapped to South so we could meet one special pooch: Buddy. Buddy is Rufus’ brother and me and his owner were desperate to get the boys together. Did they recognise each other? I’m not sure to be honest but both boys were extremely chilled out with each other and we happily had a walk around the festival before watching some duck herding and make our separate ways.
We finally got to meet our favourites at Guru Pet Food. We met the lovely Lisa and Rufus got to try some of their new venison sausages. They were a huge hit with him. I don’t think he could quite get over being surrounded by so much Guru Pet Food in one place. We had a couple of snaps in the famous Guru chairs and was photographed by Dapper Maximus. Rufus is going to be featured on the Guru Pet Food postcards – so watch this space!
Look at his demented ‘I Love Guru’ face!
We also tried a lot of treats through out our day out – the biggest hits being By Benji and Huxley Hound. We caught up with Emma and Alfie Bear and the boys tested out By Benji. Rufus constantly stalked the team with their bowls of delicious beef and. We also caught up with the team at Huxley Hound who we’ve followed on Twitter for a while. After seeing how their lovely Huxley is doing after being diagnosed with IVDD, Rufus tried out some of their beetroot and carrot treats. They were a hit.
Next stop was finally getting our hands on a PitPat Monitor with a fabulous 50% off offer. I’ve got a full post coming up on how we’re getting on with a PitPat but spoiler alert: I love it. If you ever wanted to see how much activity your dog does and have a doggy FitBit, this is the gadget for you. PitPat bought a beach to DogFest and although Rufus wasn’t a fan, it was great to see what they had done with the stall!
Whilst The Geek and our friend’s chilled out with a beer and watched Doggy Diving, it was great to meet some of our Instagram friend. We met the lovely Amy and Tilly, Emily with Colin and Rhapsody and Steph with Sev and Lily. As always, it was great to catch up and spend a few hours with Emma and Alfie and letting the dogs have a go at hay bail jumping.
We had a great day at DogFest – I definitely spent far too much money but it was a wonderful day out and great being surrounded by my favourite creatures. As well as the shopping and meeting up with friends, it was great just to sit out in the sunshine with Rufus and eat some great food (I’m looking at you Mac & Cheese stand!). I already can’t wait to go again next year!
