It’s pretty crazy that in less than 2 weeks time, we will be in 2018.
2018 is going to be a huge year for me; it’s the year of my wedding, the year I’ll be trading in my trusty Paulo the Polo, the year I’ll be making plans for a house. It’s the year I get back to travelling the world and following my dreams. It’s the year of adulting and after the shit show 2017 bought, I’m ready for it.
It is no secret that I didn’t enjoy 2017; it was a hard and testing year for me that saw me at my lowest and at my most vulnerable. I felt consistently through the year that I’ve had to fight for what I’ve wanted. But having a crap year made those good moments even more special and happy. Without babbling any further; here they are:
MY NEW JOB
The biggest thing I wanted to achieve in 2017 was to get a new job and in October, I did it. I started in a completely new field that challenges me every single day, and it’s so refreshing. I work with a team who supports, pushes me and those dreaded Sunday blues have gone. This new role is my proudest moment in 2017; I felt so down and defeated in my last role. Knowing that it wasn’t what I wanted to do, every day being a battle and no matter what I did, it never felt good enough. Let’s hope 2018 keeps giving me good vibes in this job world.
FOLK WEEK 2018
Every single year we head down to Kent for a week to spend time with our friends at the Broadstairs Folk Week festival. It’s one of my favourite few days of the year; regressing back to 2009 and being University drunk again. I wrote about the past few years here and how now we’re all living across the UK, it makes that week a little bit more special and it’s all focused on enjoying ourselves however we see fit. August wasn’t a kind month to me but this week is where I felt a lot more content and happier. It gave me the boast I needed.
FINDING A NEW FRIENDSHIP GROUP
Another highlight was cementing a friendship group further. Over the past years, I’ve written off more Saturday’s than I would like to admit due to our Friday night pub nights. We’ve held Eurovision parties over the past year, celebrated birthdays, had Harry Potter marathons, eaten too many cheese boards and kept Dominos pizza in business. They’ve been a group of friends who have made me forget the harder days in the year and helped me at my lowest. For that, I truly thank them.
JOINING SLIMMING WORLD
I joined Slimming World at the end of January and I haven’t looked back. I’ve lost just under 2 stone and seemed to have hit a bit of a lul, but I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made. I’ve cracked what kind of ‘eater’ I am (an emotional eater if you care to know) and have definitely changed my diet for the better. I feel like I know makes me tick with my diet now and feel that I won’t put the weight back on any time soon.
I know 2018 is going to be a huge year for me and I’ve already got so many plans for it. I can’t wait to get back doing what I love; planning adventures with my soon to be husband, my hound and hopefully finding my feet within this new job. 2017 – you’ve been a bag of crap but thank you for showing me my worth and that I’m pretty sure I can get through anything.
