It’s not a secret that I’m a huge foodie and I’m the kind of gal who lives for good food in their life. My favourite kind of friends are the ones who appreciate how to eat. I was invited to try out Wagamama’s new summer menu in their Birmingham Bullring restaurant, I could not sayContinue reading
I finally got to join in a Twitter chat last night where I wasn’t bombarded with boyfriend or puppy. It was lovely connecting with bloggers on #FBLChat and discussing Guest Posts. I’d always wanted to do a Box Swap and it seems a lot of you guys do too! With the nights beginning to close in and having to wear jumpers and boots again, I think a good ol’ parcel full of goodies would cheer us all up!
So, I enlisted the the help of my fellow blogging friend, Miss Mistry, and together we spent the night planning the Blogger Box Share and how we’d run it. We plotted and this is what we’ve come up with!
So if you wish to take part, all you need to do is fill in the contact form at the bottom of this blog post with your name, blog URL and e-mail address. We’d love for you to promote and share the swap so we can get more and more people involved. Signing up is open until Wednesday 9th September. Within 7 days, we will send an e-mail out requesting your likes, what type of items you’d love to receive and we will then team you up with your new blogging pal! It doesn’t have to be just beauty; we want to connect with all sorts of different bloggers!
You then have a month to buy all your gifts and get to know your new blogging friend. We’ve set the limit of £10 per box. We know times are hard and we want to make this as affordable as possible. We’ll then need you to send our your box week commencing the 14th October and write a blog post on your experience and what you received in your box!
Unfortunately, we have only opened this to the UK only. Hopefully in the future we can do internation ones! I hope you’ll join in and make some new friends on top of getting a few goodies in the post! If anyone has any questions or wants to know more, feel free to drop either or us a tweet or an e-mail. If this is a success, we’ll try and plan some more in the future!
The 20th of the month is my favourite day. Why? ‘Cause it’s my payday. It’s the one day of the month where my bank account looks temporarily pretty and I think about buying all the things. It’s honestly my favourite day of the month. The months in my head run from the 20th – 20th so, what am I up to this month?
The end of August/September is a pretty hectic month for The Geek and I. I’ve got boring things going on like my car is due it’s MOT (pray for Paulo everyone!) and my car insurance renewal is due. I’ve also got some exciting things happening! We’re back off to Lincoln one weekend for his Mum’s birthday. I haven’t been to Lincoln in a while so I’m looking forward to it! I’ve found his Mum a really cute present that I want myself so I hope she likes it! I’m also off to #mychocbloggers event in London in September, which I’m super excited for. We’re making sugar free chocolate which I’m very intrigued about. The Geek says it’s like fireworks without the gunpowder but hey ho! I’m pretty sure he’ll still stuff his face with them. So, what do I want this month? This is what’s on August’s payday wishlist!
This month I want a bit of a mix of everything. Rufus is in desperate need of a thicker and more sensible collar as we’re due to start dog training again on Thursday. The Geek’s mum got him a gorgeous red polka dot one when he was small but it’s a little too thin for him now. I’ve not found one that’s as beautiful as the one she bought until I came across this beauty. It’s not practical at all but I can just imagine him wearing it at Christmas and he’d look so smart!
I’ve gone on and on about my love for Gossip Girl and how Blair Waldorf is my queen. I’m at the end of season five at the moment. Being honest, I don’t know how I’m going to cope when it ends. My friend and I have already planned to watch the last few episodes together to get ourselves through it! I stumbled across this the other day and The Geek would HATE this with a passion (he hates Queen B, the only character he likes is Monkey). I do believe if I had this on my bedside table and looked at it every morning, I would be happier. Blair is my spirit animal. I’ve decided this print is happening and there’s nothing the Geek can do about it!
I’m probably the only person in the world who’s ready to see the autumn months and welcome the colder weather. I’m not a summer bird, especially as I’ve not been away this year. I’m quite glad to see the back of summer! One thing I love about autumn is being to wear chunky boots and three quarter sleeved dresses again. I’m obsessed with anything stripey at the moment. These little beauties are soon going to be in my wardrobe!
Tore from Atinymew managed to save the beauty world on Saturday night with her post on her £1 MAC Velvet Teddy dupe. Velvet Teddy is a beautiful nude shade and would be the perfect shade for work or a casual night out. I’m not massively into my make up and never been able to justify MACs prices, so this £1 gem is a bank account saver. Genuinely cannot wait to try this badboy out!
Lastly, Flamingo Candles are taking the candle world by storm. They look wonderful with the little flamingo design and I know one of my friends would love them! All the candles are made with soy wax which makes them much friendlier to burn and last around fifty hours each. Not bad for the twelve pound price tag! I’m yet to try one of their candles but I believe this one would smell wonderful and look gorgeous in my living room. Cheesecake is my favourite dessert, after a cheeseboard obviously, and I can imagine it smell divine. I’ve got my eyes on their Earl Grey and Cucumber candle too!
What are you guys up to this month? Anything exciting at all?
I’ve not really got round to doing ‘personal’ items on my blog as of yet. I’m still trying to find my feet on what works and what doesn’t. Having this space on the internet does allow you to write down exactly what you’re feeling and last weekend when I was sunning myself in Kent, I read something that really hit me on Twitter about a girl and a cat I do not know.
Hannah is one of my favourite bloggers. She reminds me of one of my best friends who’s got that gorgeous energy about them. Hilarious, says it how it is but relatable in that we’re all still trying to work out what’s going on in life. Hannah’s blog is one of my favourite sites on the internet. I woke up on Saturday morning with a hangover and read through my Twitter timeline. I read the heartbreaking iphone note that her fur baby cat, Rudey, had been hit by a car and needed one of her legs amputated. My heart sunk. My mind flew to Rufus who was at my Mum’s for the weekend and I just felt numb. I couldn’t process the thought of being woken up and having to rush my little dog to the emergency vets. The waiting around knowing if he’ll be OK and having to deal with any injuries yet supporting my pooch through them. It broke my heart at the thought of it and it broke even more for Hannah and Rudey because it was actually happening to them.
As an avid animal lover, I don’t believe there’s anything worse than seeing your pet in pain. It broke my heart the past few months of Alfie’s life where he was hurting whenever he went to the toilet. It’s horrid. It was horrible hearing him cry in the night and him not being in my room, which we shared for ten years, because he kept weeing everywhere and I was paranoid I smelt of dog wee when I was in work. It was a horrible final few months watching the little heartbeat at my feet fall apart and knowing he might not be there when I woke up each morning. My heart broke even further when my Mum had to make the decision to remove the tumour on his bladder or let him be. Just like Hannah, she had five minutes to make that decision and live with it. Five minutes to decide the fate of this creature who you’ve invested so much love in. It’s completely incomprehensible. My Mum chose to let him be and then she further had to make the choice of when he’d be put to sleep.
I think when I read things like this, it hits home. Even though they may just be a dog, a cat or a rabbit to another person but to you; you know how much love, laughter and happiness this little soul brings to a household. Rufus has completely changed my life and has made it a much more magical place. He makes me smile everyday, he follows me around the house. We’re two peas in a pod who barely go anywhere without each other. He’s my scruffy shadow and he completes me. I’ve had to give up a lot to have him in my life, of course, but he’s worth it. It’s reading and knowing what happened to Rudey and Hannah shows you just how precious life is. Not just an animals life but a humans life. I spent my Tuesday afternoon in A&E with The Geek because he’s caused damage to his shoulder, (note to everyone, when you’re in your late twenties – you are far too old for space hoppers and your girlfriend does not want to spend the afternoon in A&E) and it just shows how your life can change instantly in one moment. It’s scary but it puts the world back into perspective. My worries of money, work and everything else seem completely irrelevant now. All that really matters is that my two boys and my family and friends are well, safe and healthy.
I wish Hannah and Rudey all the best on their road to recovery. With Rudey adjusting to a world with 3 legs and Hannah and her boyfriend in supporting their fur baby and coming to terms with what’s happened. And to everyone else, remember life is precious and when it comes down to it, there’s nothing more important than your loved ones health.
Old English Company are mentioned in my monthly favourites but to be honest, this company deserves a whole post of its own. I really am in love with them. It’s my new favourite website and everyone will be receiving a gift off here come Christmas. I found Old English Company after reading Becky from Handwritten Moments blog post on it. I had a nosey as I found the things on her wish list super cute and since then, I have been in love with 90% of the website.
I’m not a sucker for quotes or cheesy art work. It’s something we don’t have in the Blogger & The Geek household. I don’t really like being told to relax in the bath nor being told to bake in the kitchen. I suppose, I find The Old English Company more refreshing as there are some real unique pieces. You can also customise them which is a win, especially when you have a bright green bedroom like me. Thanks for that landlady.
I’ve collated my current wishlist of the things I want for the house or gifts I’m intending to get to people nearer the time.
I just want it all! I adore the pillowcases as I think they’d be super cute with white bedding. Our bedroom is a really horrible lime green feature wall which makes it impossible to find bedding for. Nothing really goes with it except white or green. Have any of you tried to find green bedding? Don’t bother, it’s impossible. I find white bedding really plain at times but these pillowcases would add a little something to it without having to stack your bed with six million cushions. Then with the ‘Drink More Gin’ Print above my head. I think that’ll pose as a friendly reminder that the world is a better place with gin.
Have you ordered from Old English Company before or see anything you like?
I’ve loved books ever since I was a little girl. I’ve always been able to get lost into a different world and could get through a pile of books in a week. I love it. It’s my favourite hobby. Ever since I finished the A Song of Ice and Fire Series (aka, Game of Thrones), I’ve not quite been able to get into anything as heavy. I’m eagerly awaiting George R R Martin to release the date of when Winds of Winter will be out, so, until he reveals, I’ve been reading lighter, shorter books so Winds of Winter will have my full attention. Good plan me.
So, this brings me onto Dream a Little Dream. Giovanna Fletcher is one of my favourite celebrities. She comes across of one of those women who would stop and have a coffee with you and have a genuine interest in your life. I loved watching her on Youtube with her weekly, ‘Coffee with G’ and knowing what was going on in the Fletcher Household. She seems such a lovely lovely lady who deserves all the success she gets.
I never read one of her novels before ‘Dream a Little Dream’ but after reading it, I can safely say I’m putting an order on Amazon for her other novels. It’s a lovely, funny and uplifting read telling the story of Sarah who lives a happy-ish/OK-ish life in London. She works as a PA for someone who’s an arsehole and doesn’t appreciate her, she has to remain friends with her ex boyfriend so not to upset her friends, her ex has the perfect girl, her Mum’s constantly putting her down and she’s been single for 2 years. Her escape for her OK-ish life becomes her dreams where she dreams about the perfect man but her dream man then enters real life and it blurs the lines.
Giovanna’s novel is not only hilarious and a page turner, it tackles some real issues beautifully and sensitively. You fall in love with the depth of the characters and I certainly found traits of myself in all of them. Giovanna has a really imaginative and creative style. So, if you are looking for a poolside, light, chick flick I would recommend this one. Oh, and as an added bonus, Giovanna announced yesterday that Dream A Little Christmas Dream is coming out on the 8th October. I can’t think of anything better to get me ready for Autumn/Winter!
There’s a reason why I haven’t gone full detail into the plot and that’s because I’m giving away a copy of Dream a Little Dream. My bookcase is full of books and to be honest, I’m running out of room. Our loft is literally overrun with books and there’s only so many I can put in my spare room without The Geek going mad at me. So, if you are off on your holiday soon and need a poolside read then enter to win my copy along with a little cheeky something from Lush.
This giveaway is only open to the UK I’m afraid due to postage. It closes on the 1st September and will be sent out on ASAP. I will contact the winner on Twitter who will have 5 days to reply, if not, I will pick another winner
We’ve officially entered August and it’s a little bit scary how quickly 2015 is going. Favourite Posts are one of my favourite things to read ’cause I love seeing what other bloggers are loving. I’ve decided to join the craze and do a monthly favourites.
I got this in one of my Glossybox’s a few months ago. I’m not going to lie, when I read it was less than £4 from Boots I left it on the side and forgot about it and swooned after my friend’s fancy French cream. My skin used to be amazing and I barely ever broke out into spots. However, I had a dodgy facial and a crater the size of Italy erupted on my face (Thanks spa!). Since then, it’s been really dry and I’ve had loads and loads of break outs. So, I thought I had nothing to loose by using it as my other skincare products weren’t making my skin any better. The only thing I can say is why did I not do this sooner? This tub is a beast and I’m in love with it. I only use it as a night cream as it’s pretty thick but my skins improved drastically. It’s super soft, I’ve had no break outs *touch wood* and the best thing is, it’s cheap as chips. Astral do a lighter version which you could use as a day cream but I’m currently using some Aloe Vera stuff which is super good too. But seriously, there is a reason why your Mum and Nan use this stuff and that’s because it’s a skincare beast.
This has become my new favourite website and everyone in my life will be receiving their Christmas and Birthday presents off this website. I originally found them through this blog post on Handwritten Moments. When I had a browse through, I wanted all the things and nearly spent £150. Luckily for my bank account, I managed to reign myself in. What I love about it is that it’s just a little bit different. I generally hate crappy quotey art prints that tell me life is a journey and I need to relax in my bathroom. Like, I really really hate them and it makes me mad when I go round people’s houses and I see them. It’s probably up there with loud eaters. But Old English Company is different; it’s quirky, their prints are different and they do lime green prints which fit with my horrible coloured bedroom.
Bit of a weird one but me and Rufus passed our Kennel Club Puppy Foundation course this month. I’m a super proud dog momma because he’s really come on in the last few months and we’ve got a certificate. I feel like a Mum must feel when their kids first get a certificate as I full on strutted up to get it. I’m so proud of us! I’m going to miss seeing our doggy pals but we’ve signed up to another course starting at the end of August.
The Geek and I went on a date night to the cinema this week and went to see Inside Out. It’s not very often we go to the cinema as we have opposing tastes in films and it’s quite difficult to go in the week with Rufus. But, we decided to go and after our love for Big Hero Six, we fell in love with Inside Out. Although I don’t think it’s their best film I do think it is the cleverest one. It tells the story of Riley and her emotions; Joy, Anger, Worry, Disgust and Sadness who maintain Riley’s emotional state. However, with the family relocating to San Francisco, Sadness starts to play a bigger part in the story. It’s 100% worth the watch if you are looking for a film to see!
I’m hoping to do these every month. I get it’s not beauty as most peoples are but I’m not really a beauty kinda gal but these have been my favourite things this month, I hope you like it!
Do you have those people in your life where you have no idea what to get them for their birthday? I have plenty. But, I’m a very lucky girl who has a boyfriend who’s the easiest person in the world to buy for. He’s one of those people who has around 15 hobbies on the go and there’s ALWAYS a gadget that he wants. Although it’s a blessing knowing what to get him, everything he wants is pretty pricey.
When I signed up for Glossybox, he got a little bit jealous that I was getting lovely treats through the letterbox every month. So, I decided to find the boyfriend alternative and signed him up for Loot Crate for his birthday for 3 months.
Loot Crate is for geek and gamer buffs and sends 5 or 6 treats each month. Seeing as boyfriend is a self-confessed geek, the box seemed perfect for him. You get various different items in the box; t-shirts, stickers, figures, key rings – all sorts and roughly reaches the value of $40 (about £25).
Each box is themed and July’s theme was Heroes and was Batman orientated. The Geek is generally a Marvel man but it had some really cool items in there
Loot Crate has different subscription options and on it’s own is priced at $29.95 (£19 roughly). To make it cheaper, there’s loads of promotion codes across the net so if you do a bit of digging – you can get it cheaper! It comes from America and that includes all the shipping costs too. If you are struggling to find someone a gift, it’s worth subscribing too as they have some really cool gifts. If you order the month by month subscription, you can cancel at anytime.
Last Sunday, me and The Geek ventured to our local RAF base that was holding a food festival over the weekend. Me and Ginge are massive foodies; we’re huge wine drinkers and cheese eaters so these festivals are always lethal on our bank balance when we go.
With over fifty different exhibitors at the festival, we were well and truly in our element. It was pouring down with rain but we still decided to go. The stalls were all outside under marquees and because of the rain, it wasn’t too busy so we could have a chat to the exhibitors and really sample their products.
At the festival, there was entertainment through out from the afternoon. We grabbed a beer and some food to watch the Cosford Voluntary Band which was fab, even with the rain pouring down. They did such a variety; from military songs to Skyfall. It’s not our usual taste but it was lovely just sitting there and watching them.
There was a variety of different products to try. One of my favourite stalls was The Tipsy Tart that sold infused liqueurs. I’m a huge gin fan and it’s always my drink of choice. They introduced me to my new favourite thing: lavender infused gin with prosescco. All gin fans – this is the dream and you all need to get on it.
My other favourite stall was The Friendly Dog Company. They sold the most adorable dog treats and they were all natural ingredients. I fell in love with her gingerbread man shaped treats and couldn’t resist getting Rufus one. He demolished it when we got home so I’m really sad I didn’t pick up anymore!
We picked up a few more treats along the way. Luckily for my bank account, the card machines weren’t working too well because of the weather so we were limited on what we could get. Still, it was a really lovely way to spend the afternoon together and getting to try different products.
There was an interesting topic on #lbloggers chat on Sunday about blogging cliches. It sparked a debate in the blogging world; some people were upset, some laughed it off whilst others got angry.
At first, it seemed very lighthearted about how the majority of us use a plain white background and our fake flowers for backdrops on photos. I’m 100% guilty of this and I also own some IKEA white drawers, but then it got a little bit weird. People started saying ‘owning a pet’ or ‘owning Apple products’ is a blogging cliche. Is it? I’m pretty sure I didn’t invest in Rufus in hope he’ll bring me some views in or think his existence would fulfil my blogging persona. Yes he does feature heavily in my blog but that’s because he’s one of the biggest parts of my life. I’m also 90% sure most people own an iphone these days and they aren’t bloggers. It all seemed to get a bit silly. Every aspect of our lives were being classed as cliche and people fighting desperately to not be classed as one. People trying to chip in saying, ‘I don’t take photos of my food’ or ‘I don’t watch Pretty Little Liars’ I ended up taking a step back from it and observed from afar.
After the chat, I took Rufus out for a walk and thought about it. I’ll be honest; not many people in my life know about my blog. I use my personal Instagram and Twitter to showcase it but I don’t actively tell people about it. I let them stumble across it and then they can talk to me about if they wish. Then I thought, what would they think if they came across it? Would they think I’m trying to make a quick couple of quid and dream of being the next Zoella? What cliche would they put on me? It all got a bit much in my head.
The thing is, it’s pretty bloody hard to be original in the blogging world. I’ve struggled with it myself and to be honest I feel nowhere near achieving it. I’m guilty of looking through Bloglovin’s popular posts for inspiration and looking at the blogs I follow for some motivation. I try and put my own twist on it and I would never post something that isn’t ‘me’. But, there’s always going to be something that sparks my interest and I suppose fit the ‘cliche’, does that make me one?
I’m not gonna lie, this has been a super rambly post. I’ve sort of got lost in my own thoughts. I guess my final thoughts are this. To an extent we’re all blogging cliches but there’s nothing wrong with that. At the end of the day, we all want to write and we’ll write about things in our lives that we love. Whether that’s your MAC Lipstick, getting sloshed on prosecco or the latest film you’ve seen. People read our blogs as they have the same interests as us. People wouldn’t read about something they aren’t interested in, would they? We support each other because we’re a pretty close community who wish the best for each other. So maybe we’re not cliches, maybe we are just a bunch of people inspiring each other on a daily basis. If that makes us a cliche bunch of people then so be it. I like being part of this community and I like what I’ve achieved so far.
What do you think about blogging cliches?

I’ve done that really annoying thing where you’ve misplaced your purse and have had to turn our house upside down in an attempt to find it. Unfortunately, I haven’t found it and have had to cancel every card.
I really really hate loosing my cards. The one good thing is that it stops me from spending money I don’t have but I’ve got a trip to London planned this week AND I’m on annual leave too. So, that’s basically me doing nothing until Natwest send me my card and until then I’m transferring all my money to my boyfriend. Sob.
So, I spent Saturday night watching Pitch Perfect, drinking wine and looking for purses online to cheer myself up. I’ve narrowed it down to these:
Like every woman on the planet, I really love Cath Kidston and whenever I’m in a city (especially with my future sister in law), I always end up in a store. I really loved the pooch print and it’s the one purse that’s got a bit more to it that I liked. Maybe I should go for something more out there so I don’t keep losing them?
I’m basically a Radley obsessed dog momma. They are my favourite designer brand and it’s about as designer as I go. Every products is of superb quality and I love the little Scottie on there and seeing what he gets up to. Whenever I buy one, I usually get one with the dog doing what either Rufus or Alfie would get up to. I really love the Scottie dog and the Beagle being friends on this one. One of my closest friends has a beagle and it instantly reminded me of her.
Ted Baker is a brand that’s growing on me. I’m a girl who’s wardrobe consists of black, grey and if I am pushing the boat and feeling crazy, it’ll have some navy in there. Although I could admire their products, I’d never purchase one as I’m not that colourful. However, I loved the forest green of this. It’s simple and would look gorgeous in Autumn/Winter. Well done Ted Baker.
Urban Outfitters have bought this cutie into the world. I love the pineapple on it and it gives it a little something to it. It also looks super soft and will fit in any of my bags. It’s also not a bad price for twenty two quid.
I really love them all. As I’m a dog obsessed lady who has just been paid, I really want the Radley purse. My lost purse was a beautiful Radley one and it sat beautifully in my Radley bag.
Have you got any purses that I need to see before I make up my mind or which one is your favourite?
